Don’t we all like a bit more of everything? A bit more space, a touch more convenience and more power? We applied these ideas to an upgraded Buzzraw- Enter the Buzzraw Pro: The business class-esque addition to the Buzzraw family that takes ‘more’ and makes it standard.

When we launched the original Buzzraw Classic, it captured the spirit of the moment and sat at the intersection of fat bikes, utility bikes and lifestyle E-bikes; and while it quickly found fans across the globe, from school-run mums to surfers, it became apparent that the capability of the format was worth pushing further; this was in part driven by some of our customers who not just wanted, but needed a bit more of everything.

The use cases for the Buzzraw Classic was broad- for some it was an alternative urban runabout, for others, a daily commute workhorse. But feedback also pointed to it being used as as compact cargo bike and a more nimble alternative to bicycles like the Bullitt and Urban Arrow, both popular utility focussed bicycles in Europe with massive cargo capacity, which can be a bit beyond the requirements for some people day to day.

The task was to upgrade the Buzzraw in key areas but keep its design language that customers know and love; an iconic design that still draws crowds wherever it appears.

So what upgrades did we make to bless this model with the “Pro” moniker?

More room to do more :

One of the biggest requests was for better ergonomics for larger riders and decent space for a passenger; so top of the list was to design more roominess into the frame. This also entailed optimising the position of the lounge seat saddle so more of it could be used for rider and passenger. The repositioning of the saddle also allowed for a higher hip point, creating a more ergonomic pedal stroke for those with longer legs.

More utility :

More space in the Buzzraw Pro’s new, semi-enclosed cargo bag. We’ve designed this new, larger cargo bag to capitalise on the Buzzraw Pro’s longer frame for increased storage capacity and easier access. We’ve also designed it to be semi-enclosed for enhanced utility and protection. As expected, the Buzzraw Pro takes all the accessories that current owners know and love- racks, fenders and all.

More safety and comfort as standard :

The Buzzraw Pro features a more robust frame given the scale in size. This comes from upping the thickness of the frame tubing to reduce flex, especially with 2 passengers on board.

An added benefit of the longer frame is that its upsized geometry inherently introduces a more relaxed and stable ride; yet agility is not sacrificed as the Buzzraw Pro fits our Buzzwalker linkage fork as standard, which by design, keeps the direct steering feel of a rigid fork, yet takes the sharp edge of broken surfaces with its 80mm of linear travel. Out of the box, the Buzzraw Pro also features Magura MT4e 2 piston hydraulic disc brakes with 160mm rotors as standard on the E-bike versions. This braking set up provides great stopping power and features an integrated motor power cut when applied.

More effortless power :

All Buzzraw Pros can be specced with mid-drive drivetrains in 2 flavours where permissible (250 and 750 watts), running through our RS8, 8 speed mountain bike transmission as standard. In making the bike capable of carrying more, we needed a drivetrain that could move it with ease while complying with global E-bike power regulations. The benefits of a mid-drive transmission is that it is positioned on the bike where it can exploit the amplifying abilities of a traditional derailleur bicycle drivetrain, in this case, our RS8, to extend the capabilities of the motor. This is in opposition to an integrated rear hub motor of equivalent power and no gears, unaided, the motor is itself the limit. Mid drive systems characteristically move with deep reserves of torque and power, and riders of the Buzzraw Pro will sense this even when riding around under full load.
